Importing Data with Data Import Wizard
Updated over a week ago

In this article, we will walk you through the process of using the Data Import Wizard to seamlessly import records into your CRM. Data migration can be a complex task, and it's common to make a few attempts before achieving the desired results. You can find many online resources that cover this process, but we'll do our best to explain it below for your convenience.

Before diving into the data import, it's crucial to have a good grasp of where your data will be placed within Rethink. Additionally, ensure that your data is clean, free of duplicates, and accurate. Once you've verified your data quality and know exactly where each field should be populated, you are all set to proceed with the tool. Let's get started!

To begin the data import process, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Setup

  2. In the Quick Find search box, type "Data Import Wizard" and select it from the search results when it appears.

  3. Once you're in the Data Import Wizard tool, follow the step-by-step instructions to proceed with the data import. The wizard will guide you through the necessary configurations and options to successfully import your records into Salesforce.

In this example, we'll demonstrate how to import Comps into Rethink using a CSV file. Before proceeding, it's essential to verify that each column in your spreadsheet corresponds to an associated field in Rethink. This ensures that the data has the appropriate destination. If any fields are missing, make sure to create them in Rethink before continuing. Now, let's get started with the import process:

4. Click on "Launch Wizard!" from the tool. Then, select the specific object you wish to import. Most Rethink objects can be found under "Custom Objects."

5. After selecting the object, you'll be prompted to specify the type of import you are conducting:

We're simply adding new records in this case, so we'll choose the first option.

6. You'll then be given the opportunity to assign additional details of the Comp that are related, like record owner, Broker, Buyer, Deal, etc. We don't need to select any of these because we haven't included those details in the CSV - but the last selection is record type; Lease Comp or Sale Comp. We're uploading Sale Comps.

4. Upload your CSV file and click Next.

5. This is where the magic happens - you'll map your file records to your Rethink object fields.

6. Once complete, you'll see a summary of the mapped fields. In this scenario, there are two data points unmapped (Zip and Prop Owner), so these fields will be omitted from the upload.

7. Click Start Import

After initiating the import job, you will receive notifications about its status, and in case of any errors, they will be presented to you for review. If the import completes without any errors, you will be able to view the newly added records in the object you imported them to.

As a best practice, it is advisable to thoroughly check your records to ensure that the data has been accurately mapped and imported as expected. This helps to verify the data's correctness and ensure a successful import process. Taking the time to review the records can prevent potential issues and maintain data integrity within your CRM.
